Winter 2014 Anime Log #1

It's that time again! Winter is upon us, so it's time to look at the barrage of Winter anime! This season, I'm going a bit lighter due to a demanding schedule and to try and find some time for other things (that Bleach retrospective won't continue itself until that damn robot is functioning). That said, I still ended up with a sizable load of shows to follow. Also, I will not be covering shows continuing from last year, so don't expect to see SamFlam, Kill la Kill, Silver Spoon or the like. They all get their own reviews when I finish them, on my own time (but I am indeed following Kill la Kill almost religiously). Continuing shows in other seasons throughout the year will also not be covered, it is strictly all new shows. There will be four logs this time, with a bi-weekly schedule. I hope not to skip weeks this time, but no promises.

And with that explanation done, here's everything I'm following!

Silver Spoon S2 Episode 5 "Minami Kujo, Appear!" Preview Images and Synopsis

New faces of competition challenge the Equestrian Club's ability again and again. The tension in this "game of human lives" sends shivers down their spines! This feeling, this tension, this fear is manifested in Aki's childhood friend Minami Kujo!

Alternatively, you can repeat the phrase, "Minami rules with money, and Aki is a lout," while listening to a rich debutaunt going "OH HO HO HO" over and over, you'll be good. I do like the pictures this time. Well done, people who run the website. I do hope I'm getting Minami's name right

Winter Impressions (Week 2)

Here we go! We're into Week 2 and I've already dropped nine series. So right now I am down to 11 series that need to be covered. This time I'm going to be covering those 11, but it will be with episodes 1 and 2 to get a better idea of the show. Let's get this party started!

After the Last Page

"'Who can say whether we shall ever see them again?' said Morrel with tears in his eyes.

'Darling,' replied Valentine, 'has not the count just told us that all human wisdom is summed up in two words?--"Wait and Hope."'" --Alexander Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo.THERE IS A UNIQUE SADNESS waiting at the end of every great book.

I finally finished by Alexandre Dumas. I say finally, but I think that conveys a sense of relief that I don't at all feel. My heart was heavy when I took away my bookmark and laid the weighty volume aside. The Robin Buss translation that I read from Penguin runs just over 1200 pages--more if you count the notes, which of course I also read . . . mostly. To be clear, I do not consider this an accomplishment. I have not since checked one more capital 'c' Classic off of the sacred list handed down to me by my former professors, those high priests of the English canon. I read Dumas because I love his pension for the dramatic--those lofty notes of Romance.

(Late...) Welcome 2014!

I've been losing sleep, driving myself crazy (er)... and wracking my brain over my lack of artistic inspiration and drive... and I still haven't figured it out! (Bet you thought I had an answer huh?.. Nope!)

I decided I'm going to change up a little bit of this blog instead of just randomly posting things I've worked on or completed, but I'm going to try to work through my issues on a weekly basis through routine. That's where the blog comes in. I want to have something to post.

Samurai Champloo Review

"Disco, disco fever!"

This anime is actually rather old, coming out in English close to seven years ago now. I've watched it three times now, but it never gets old. It's a creative and humorous anime no matter what year it is. If there was ever a genre called "historical comedy," this anime would fit right in.

Space Dandy Episode 1 Impressions

This may be late but at least its before the next episode tonight!

Toonami has a new show, hurray! Not just any new show but a simultaneously broadcasted show. Meaning that it will air the same day in both Japan and America! This isn't anything new there have been other anime series that have done it this way. The fact that Toonami was able to land this show is incredible! After being on the chopping block since its return Toonami has seemed to have a revival. What better way to show a revival than having the block come on 30 minutes earlier and a simulcasted show on top of that.

Anime Roundup: Winter 2014

Hurrah! The new anime season is upon us so dive into more shows and increase our backlog even further!! Wait

Actually, the winter season tends to be one of the weaker ones of the year as it's following on from the biggest one. Not that this has prevented my watch list from ballooning, mostly due to the studios having grasped my weakness and thrown in a plethora of mecha shows. And I will always make room for a mecha show! But first, let's take a look at what has come by from last season.

Winter 2014

This post reviews: BUDDY COMPLEX, SPACE DANDY, NOBUNAGA THE FOOL, NORAGAMI, and TONARI NO SEKI-KUN.

Considering that we are already two weeks into the anime season, there really is no point in publishing a Season Preview since all of the shows have aired 1-2 episodes by now.And considering that the previews are mainly geared toward my tastes and preferences, it sorta doubles over here into these First Impressions where I document my opinions based on these first episodes. So in short, I'm starting the season off with my First Impressions for the first anime that aired this season.

Sharean Moritshita: The Mind Behind Love! Love! Fighting!

Hey hey folks! First off I'm giving a delayed Happy New Year to you all! I hope the years is off to a good start for everyone.

So on to the blogging. I'm pretty excited about this one! It's my first interview! It's something I'm hoping to do on this blog more often since there are a lot of pretty cool people out there with stories and lives way more interesting then mine. So I supposed that's a New Years Resolution of mine, to start getting to know these folks and hopefully get them more exposure as well.

First Impression: Space Dandy

Space Dandy was produced by Bones.

There are few names in every genre that even very casual fans know.

No, Space Dandy is NOT Cowboy Bebop. Get over it.

Last night, Cartoon Network's late-night action cartoon block Toonami aired the world-premiere episode of Space Dandy, a sci-fi comedy action series produced by Studio Bones and overseen by acclaimed anime director Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo fame. Can Space Dandy really be as great as fans expect? Potentially, yes. But is it the anime you REALLY hoped for? Nope, and that's okay.

Toonami's been making some serious strides forward these past couple of months. The block kicked off the end of the year with an entire month dedicated to high-profile anime movies, among them Katsuhiro Otomo's landmark film AKIRA and Mamoru Hosoda's Summer Wars. Just before this, Toonami announced that they had secured the rights to premiere the english dub of Shinichiro Watanabe's latest anime series Space Dandy at the start of 2014, one day before the Japanese premiere no less.

Space Dandy Episode 1 Notes

(Note: Episodic notes are still mostly to be found on the Episodics Notes' page, but 0-2 episodes per week will have their write-up appear on the main page, when I think they warrant it. For those who don't know, I take the notes as I watch the episode, and merely re-order them afterwards.)

So, I've been hearing good stuff about this, let's see what we've got here.

Winter 2014 Anime Preview

I am behind, I am behind, I am behind, but the plague of sickness that fell right on Christmas will not hold me back any longer - at least not from typing this sucker out while the world slowly freezes outside my door.

As always, I'm posting the series that interest me.I won't and can't promise to blog them all, but I suspect there will be more than a few (certainly more than in fall) that I'll stick with. Here they are, with my thoughts about each:

South Korea Weighs Legal Patchwork Surrounding Anti-Abortion Measures

In 2000 the South Korean offensive identified issues binding legal experts to reproductive freedom projects endorsed by the American Medical Association and the Justice Department's inspector general. The 1950 offensive, which was relayed to the Fifth Circuit, is likely to have a different restriction on treason.

Spanning the line were exceptions to the memos supplied by the same legal parameters set by the Obama administration, including signs.

Winter 2014 Plans

Well this is about as late as I can justify it, what with the season actually kinda starting today, but here it is anyway.

Autumn was a bit disappointing, but I'm reasonably looking forward to this season. Not that there weren't any good shows, but only a few were really notable or exceptional. Certainly not as strong as many past Autumn seasons.

Absolution for the Sins of the Fandom: Toonami's Epic Journey.

In the deep blackness of space, a ship called "Sin Eater" - rides alone, wanted by many - to cure the ailments. To regain and re-teach respect. To answer the call of a lost multitude. It was taken out of commission once, and from its place - steeds with the supposed gift of peace and friendship, only showed war and desecration.

In this space, warlords protected by intergalactic committees who only goal of educating the youth is failing by the day, now use these pirates to trap the youth in a never-ending mire of lies and deceit.
